Our next Cal TURN event is scheduled for October 15-16, 2015 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront, One Park Blvd, San Diego, CA 92101. Our conference will focus on Promoting Excellence through Equity and Empowerment: A Close Look at Social-Emotional Learning and Formative Assessment. We will continue our focus on 4 priorities from the LCAP template: pupil engagement, school climate, student achievement and parental involvement. We will also further explore the changing roles of our union, school and district leadership in building and strengthening collaborative partnerships to improve teaching effectiveness and student learning.

We are assembling presenters, both from our local unions and districts as well as nationally recognized specialists and guests to share promising practices so we can learn from and support each other’s work.

Topics include:

·Establishing & Growing a Culture of Collaboration, Trust and Voice Focused on Learning

·Reflecting on the Use of LCAP

·Focusing on Social-Emotional Learning through Collaborative Partnerships

·Establishing Social-Emotional Learning Outcomes, Indicators and Measurements

·Strengthening Our Collaborative Cultures

Our Cal TURN teams represent union & teacher leaders, school & district administrators and board members who are working jointly to plan and implement teacher evaluation systems and the common core standards to improve teaching and learning. We continue to encourage and support our Cal TURN teams to jointly develop, implement and share their efforts. Additionally, we will work with teams to develop action plans in order to facilitate the work in our school communities.

Cal TURN locals are encouraged to invite representatives from their district and school administration, boards of education and community leaders to join their teams for this two-day forum. The conference will begin at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 15, with registration beginning at 9:00am, and will conclude by 1:00 pm on Friday, October 16.
