Northwest TURN Labor-Management Collaboration Conference

Dear Northwest TURN Colleague,
Our next Northwest TURN event is scheduled for November 18-19, 2016 at the Embassy Suites Portland –Airport, 7900 NE 82nd Ave., Portland, OR 97220. Our conference will focus on Making a Difference: Integrating Academic, Social and Emotional Learning through Collaborative Partnerships. We will continue to collaboratively examine ways to plan and integrate the implementation of rigorous and challenging student learning and teaching standards, practices and programs. We will also explore new approaches in developing conditions for effective teaching and learning. Our agenda will feature local, state and national examples of promising practices and policies that focus on this joint work.
Our NW TURN teams represent union & teacher leaders, school & district administrators and board members who are working jointly to plan and implement teacher evaluation systems and college and career ready standards to improve teaching and learning. We continue to encourage and support our NW TURN teams to jointly develop, implement and share their efforts. Additionally, we will work with teams to develop action plans in order to facilitate the work in our school communities.Our NW TURN locals are encouraged to invite representatives from their district and school administration, boards of education and community leaders to join their teams for this two-day forum.
Our conference will begin at 9:30 am on Friday, November 18 and will conclude by 2:30 pm on Saturday, November 19.
FINANCIAL SUPPORT:Northwest TURN will reimburse participating teams for one day’s substitute teacher pay if needed, airfare or mileage expenses ($300 cap for air travel) and one night’s lodging for up to 2 union/teacher leaders and 2 district administrators. If you are registering more than four people on your team, please note in the comments field which individuals should be covered by this financial support. HOTEL RESERVATIONS:A block of rooms will be reserved at the Embassy Suites for NW TURN participants at a rate of $149, plus taxes & fees per room, per night based on single or double occupancy. CONFERENCE REGISTRATION: The registration deadline is November 11, 2016. The registration fee is $50 per person, which includes continental breakfast and buffet lunch on both days and a light reception on Friday evening.
